MercyMe, Zach Williams take top honors at GMA Dove Awards

MercyMe was named Artist of the Year and Zach Williams took home New Artist of the Year during the 48th annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, held Tuesday night, Oct. 17, at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena in Nashville, Tenn.

The GMA handed out honors in 39 categories plus special industry recognitions at the sold-out show hosted by Kari Jobe and Tasha Cobb Leonard.

Country music superstar Reba McEntire received the first Dove Award of her career in the Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year category.

McEntire, who was visibly moved by the honor, complimented her friends and fellow nominees the Isaacs before saying, “It’s not mine … it’s God’s. I give Him all the glory. And I’ll think of Him every time I look at it. … I’m just a conduit. I’m just a water hose. He lets me sing words that if it touches my heart, and I sing it and it touches your heart, I’ve done my job.”

Trinity Broadcasting Network will televise the show on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 8 p.m. CST.
