Dr. Bobby S. (Bob) TerryPresident and Editor
Dr. Bobby S. (Bob) Terry is president and editor of The Alabama Baptist. A native of Alabama, Dr. Terry holds degrees from Mississippi College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. An ordained minister, Dr. Terry has been involved in state Baptist papers since 1968 when he was called as associate editor of the Kentucky Baptist publication, Western Recorder. In 1975, he was elected editor of Missouri Baptists' Word & Way, where he served for 20 years. He assumed the editorship of The Alabama Baptist in 1995.
Dr. Terry is active in Baptist life serving as executive secretary for the Association of State Baptist Papers and chairman of the communication committee of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA). He has also served as a member of the BWA Executive Committee since 2001. In addition, he has been president of Associated Church Press (ACP) and chairman of the postal affairs committee of both ACP and Evangelical Press Association.
He is active in community affairs, having served on United Way committees and on the board of directors for mental health organizations, Community Grief Support Service in the greater Birmingham area and Bread for the World. He is a graduate of both Leadership Birmingham and Leadership Alabama and is a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Birmingham.
Dr. Terry is a popular speaker who has served numerous Baptist churches as interim pastor and who has preached at statewide evangelism conferences, statewide pastors' conferences and international missions meetings. His wife, Patricia Hart Terry, is professor of nutrition and dietetics in the department of exercise science and sports medicine at Samford University in Birmingham.
