During concerts the contemporary duo of Mike Grayson and his wife, Molly Reed, share the details of how the Lord orchestrated their personal and professional journey together and the importance of honoring Him through their music, message and marriage.

The songs on the Grayson Reed debut album “Walk” are designed to encourage believers to pursue Christ and follow Him daily.

‘Authentic view’

“Every song on this record is a sincere, authentic view of our hearts and our life,” Reed said. “We pray that anyone who listens to it would be able to connect with the songs in a real way. We really want these songs to encourage people in their faith walk as the lyrics speak into people’s lives and help people to grow deeper with Jesus.

“At our concerts we strive to be vulnerable, real and open with audiences. We want them to know that we deal with some of the same craziness that they might be dealing with and sometimes the same struggles they may be facing. By the grace of God we are not alone in this journey, and we want to remind people of that.”

Previously Grayson was the lead vocalist and founding member of the musical group Mikeschair while Reed performed with City Harbor. Joining forces provides the couple with the same touring schedule and allows the opportunity to experience milestones alongside their two-year-old daughter, Grailey.

Reed said, “God has been teaching both me and my husband to trust Him and to be patient. We’ve just been in this crazy season with both of us transitioning out of our old groups into our duo. We’ve had to trust God to provide in so many ways and to open doors that needed to be opened. The transition into this season is not as easy as some might think. It’s a challenge but it’s a choice to hand it over to the Lord and trust Him with everything and the places we need to go.”

New parents

“Being new parents we are also learning a new level of patience with a toddler and all of her fun adventures and things she likes to explore. There’s a song on the album called ‘Bloom’ that we wrote for our daughter. The second that I became a mom, I had this strong urge to want to put my daughter in a bubble and try to keep her safe for the rest of her life.”

For His glory

“However, the reality is in life we will all face obstacles and I can’t keep her from experiencing those emotions. We want our daughter to know when you have God in your life and choose to follow Him that He can take any situation and use it for your good and His glory.

“At the end of the song the chorus says, ‘Watch Him use the rain to make you bloom.’ I think that’s so true.

“I think sometimes when we’re in the middle of a storm, of course we don’t want to be there, but it’s during those moments that God could be refining us and growing our faith and helping us to become better, stronger people and becoming deeper and wiser in those hard situations. We pray that our daughter would know that no matter what might come her way that God is always with her.”

Grayson and Reed met while attending college together at Belmont University in Nashville, and they were married after being friends for 10 years. They wrote the song “Fight For You” as a way to remind married couples about the importance of weathering through the storms of life and keeping Christ as their central focus.

“The song emphasizes the fact that marriage and love is a choice, and it’s a choice that you have to commit to love one another and to fight for one another each day,” Reed said. “We’ve found that the world has so many things trying to work against you and trying to pull you apart. As a married couple, if you don’t choose to fight for each other then no one else will. That song came from a place where we wanted to look into our marriage and hopefully would encourage other relationships.”

Overwhelming response

“The responses to the song have been incredibly overwhelming. Everything from people playing the song at their wedding or renewing their vows — to stories about people hearing the song as they were about to leave their spouse and deciding to turn the car and fight for their marriage. … It’s real life and real stories based on a song about our marriage. We couldn’t be more grateful for the way that God has been using a song that was written about our own marriage and journey together.”
