NFL Coach Fisher found ‘something’ he was missing

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher had it all — a Super Bowl ring as a player with the Chicago Bears, the most career wins of any Tennessee Titans coach ever and an established career in the game that he loved. But he was missing something, he said during an “I Am Second” video interview. That “something” was the Lord.

He’d grown up in church and had a bad taste in his mouth, so to speak, about religion.

No guilt

He didn’t have a lot of free time as a National Football League coach and that made it easy to not feel guilty about not attending church.

“One of the more difficult things is the time,” Fisher saidof his career. “Either you are going 100 miles an hour or you are sleeping. There is nothing in between.”

It wasn’t until 2010 that he realized he needed Christ in his life, Fisher said in the video.

It was through the assistance of a friend that Fisher found the answers he’d been trying to find on his own. While driving on Fisher’s farm, he and his friend pulled over on a bridge and began talking about life and faith.

“I just kind of pulled over, pulled over on the bridge and … (my friend) said, ‘Do you really honestly believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord and your Savior?’ And I went, ‘Yeah.’ But then he was like, ‘Do you really believe it?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ And he goes, ‘What does that mean?’ And I couldn’t answer.”

From there the friend continued to talk with Fisher about Christ and that day he said he “accepted the Lord in my heart for my lifetime, there on that bridge.”

Fisher said prior to that day, “There was something missing. But in my world there is never time to figure out what it is, in fact, missing. I was losing an opportunity to be (a good dad) and that was difficult for me. The answers were not there. They just were not there.”

Less stress

But after accepting Christ, Fisher said his stress lessened and he began to rely on his relationship with the Lord.

“It’s not a weird thing. It’s not a born-again thing, it was a peaceful, really, really cool movement where I just felt that I was no longer the dad anymore,” Fisher said. “I actually had become a son, and it makes things much easier from a day-to-day perspective. I could handle those responsibilities because I know that I have a Father that is looking after me, that has got my best interest in His heart.” (TAB)
