A.L. Courtney, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church, Pell City, and his wife, Myra Courtney, made their first visit to Ghana this spring.
Responding to a need Pat and Peggy Ozment, Southern Baptist representatives to Ghana, expressed to the International Mission Board, the Courtneys left March 18 for a monthlong stay in Tamale. While there, they worked closely with the Ozments at Ghana Baptist Theological Seminary — A.L. teaching classes alongside Pat and Myra working alongside Peggy in the school’s library.
The Courtneys brought money provided by their St. Clair Baptist Association church to pay for a new roof for the home of a local pastor, whose roof was blown away in a violent storm.
The couple also visited the Baptist medical center in Nalerigu and village churches on the weekends.
“We would love to go back, and if the door of need opens, we will certainly be available,” Myra said.
