Fairhope’s Faith Church holds Mega Sports Campcomment (0)

Judy Patrick, children’s minister at Faith Baptist Church, Fairhope, wanted to try something new in place of Vacation Bible School (VBS) this year.
“I was looking for something outside the box, something innovative and exciting for children,” said Patrick, wife of Pastor Tim Patrick.
So she got to work, and July 27–31, the Baldwin Baptist Association church hosted Mega Sports Camp, attracting about 130 kindergarteners through sixth-graders from the church and community each night.
And with 10 salvation decisions, which included one adult, Patrick said “it proved to be a tremendous outreach.”
During the daily rallies, Amy Hinton, the rally coach and wife of Faith Baptist’s Worship Minister Tony Hinton, taught a lesson from the life of Moses. The lessons were used to develop the camp’s theme based on Jeremiah 29:11–12, teaching children God has a purpose for everybody.
Along with VBS elements of Bible study and music, children were able to choose a sports track — baseball, soccer, basketball or cheerleading — through which they were taught general skills.
Patrick said there was a positive response to the camp and the church plans to hold it again next year.
