Retired Alabama Baptist pastor Otho Harding Machen died Aug. 22. He was 88.

Born in Attalla, Machen served as a pastor for 44 years and retired from South Central Bell after 41 years. His pastorates included Valley Grove Baptist Church, Tuscumbia; Nitrate City Baptist Church, Muscle Shoals; Bluff Park Baptist Church, Hoover; First Baptist Church, Tallasahatchie, in Alpine; First Baptist Church, Rocky Ridge, in Hoover; and Lagoon Baptist Church, Gulf Shores.

Machen, a World War II Army veteran, was active in missions, participating in 26 national and international missions trips.

Preceded in death by an infant son, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleonore; five children; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. (TAB)
