Union Hill Baptist Church, Bessemer, in Mud Creek Baptist Association took a weekend — Sept. 26–27 — to honor its 75 years of ministry. Christian group Calling Levi and former Union Hill Baptist pastors provided special music during the Saturday evening celebration. On Sunday, former and current church members learned of the church’s 1930s establishment by brothers Henry and L.O. Hyche.
Union Hill began with 11 charter members, and meetings were held in a storehouse, under trees and in a self-built church house before the growing congregation moved to two more buildings. Today’s average Sunday attendance is about 350. Pastor Mickey Bell said the church has grown because of “the dedication of the people to honor God and to do what He has called them to do.”
“We still have a long way to go, but we’re grateful God has seen fit to bless us the way He has.”
