Enon Baptist Church, Montevallo, honored accompanist Edythe Anderson on Sept. 27 for 65 years of ministry in the Shelby Baptist Association church. Pastor Bill Trawick presented a plaque to Anderson for her faithful service to the church, and a reception was held in her honor with friends and family present.
“It was such a blessing and a total surprise,” she said. “We recently got a brand new church sign out front, and they had printed on that sign ‘Thanks Mrs. Edythe for 65 years of faithful service.’ And I went in and there were two or three pews full of my family who I didn’t even know was coming, and I just thought, ‘This is a reward plus some.’”
After marrying and moving her membership to Enon Baptist, Anderson consistently served as pianist/organist for the church. She even took time throughout the years to pass along her knowledge of music to others by giving piano lessons and teaching in the public school system. And although Anderson decided this year was her time to retire, she is quick to say, “I’m still here if I’m needed.”
That’s not a surprise to Trawick, who said her “absolute total dedication to the Lord and serving the Lord at the church” continues to bless others. “She’s a remarkable little lady with the sweetest spirit,” he said. “She packs a lot of talent and a lot of energy, but she felt this was the time for her to ... retire.”
