Retired Alabama pastor James L. Moore died Dec. 2. He was 83.
Moore, who spent half of his life in Gadsden, was a long-time pastor of East Walnut Baptist Church, Gadsden, in Etowah Baptist Association, serving three different times for approximately 25 years of total service. He last served as pastor of East Walnut from 2004 to 2009, retiring less than a month before his death.
Moore also served at Noble Street Baptist Church, Anniston, and Wayside Baptist Church, Alexander City, as well as at churches in Texas.
Moore was the first chaplaincy coordinator for Etowah Association’s Mission Center, serving from 1995 to 2003. He also coordinated the first charity golf tournament for the Mission Center, an event now held annually. Moore remained a volunteer chaplain with the center until October 2009.
After graduating from college and seminary at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Moore was licensed and ordained in 1954. He served in the ministry for more than 60 years.
Moore is preceded in death by his first wife, Eugenia; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; four children; one stepchild; seven grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. (TAB)
