The 11-year-old mortgage statement of Blanton Baptist Church, Valley, turned to ashes Jan. 25.
“Through the generosity of some members we were able to pay it off ahead of schedule,” said Linda Clark, wife of the pastor, Billy Clark.
Blanton Baptist began as a mission church of Beulah Baptist Church, Valley, Feb. 17 1985. A congregation of eight attended its first service held in a vacant building in the Blanton community. On April 10, 1988, the church purchased more than four acres of land on Lee Road 380.
Blanton Baptist was established as an outreach church three months later. A mobile chapel was purchased in 1989 ad used until the church held its first service in its current building. In 1990, the building was achieved through the labors of church members. Carpenters for Christ and other volunteers. The building now serves as a place of fellowship and worship to 95 members.
