Jasper carpenters work at Shoccocomment (0)

July 20, 2000

By Stacey L. Livingston

Eight Carpenters for Christ from Blooming Grove Baptist Church, Jasper, came to Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center June 4-8 to help renovate the Adventure Camp Administration building.

The volunteers cooperated with contractors to put siding on the building and finish the interior. Dennis Clement, the construction supervisor, is a carpenter by trade, and two of the other volunteers are roofers. This experience, combined with a willingness to work and a joy for doing things for the Lord, made this job a lot more enjoyable.

During the day, the group worked and enjoyed meals at the nearby dining hall. Later in the evening, they found time for fun by playing tennis and jumping on the Aqua Jump.

This project at Shocco is not the first for which Blooming Grove has volunteered. The volunteers try to make at least one trip per year and have done projects for the past three years. Shocco was chosen because it provided the kind of work the group could easily do in the week for which they had planned. Thanks to several groups of volunteers like Carpenters for Christ, the renovation of the building is complete, just in time for RA camps this summer.
