Longtime Alabama pastor Charlie Thorn died July 28. He was 91.
Thorn was a pastor for 68 years of churches in Franklin, Marion and Colbert counties and one church in Mississippi.
He served in a variety of roles in Franklin Baptist Association and one term as a second vice-president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention.
One of his longest stints was pastor of North Russellville Baptist Church. In 1954, Thorn organized Cleveland, Ohio’s, first Southern Baptist church.
Thorn received his training to be a pastor through experience and the Howard College (now Samford University) Extention Division.
His funeral was July 29 at First Baptist Church, Russellville.
Thorn is survived by his wife of 74 years, Myrtle, and their five children. (TAB)
