Jerry Hovel, associate pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, Grand Bay, led a team of 15 “senior saints” to Chimaltenango, Guatemala.
The team, which had members ranging in age from 47 to 79, spent July 15–22 building 10 12-by-12 tin houses with cement floors, feeding a village of 100 families and providing clothing to those in need.
It partnered with local pastors and stayed in a missions house owned by the Mobile Baptist Association church that sits on the mountainside overlooking Chimaltenango.
“It’s more than building houses and feeding them,” Hovel said. “Our ultimate goal is to win them to Jesus Christ. We believe that we can demonstrate God’s love to them by what we do more than what we say.”
