Keys, Opal Lee comment (0)

January 25, 2007

Opal Lee Keys Anderson died Jan. 2. She was 74.

A native of Kentucky, she was the wife of Harold Anderson, who served the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions for 37 years and was director of church building and new work at the time of his 1995 retirement.

At the time of her death, the two were members of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Montgomery, in Montgomery Baptist Association. Opal Anderson taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School classes for senior adults and children. Active in Woman’s Missionary Union and the church choir, she also traveled extensively, leading groups on tours of the Holy Land and visiting missionaries worldwide.

Opal Anderson had a career in nursing that spanned six decades, spending 43 years at Baptist Medical Center South (formerly Baptist Medical Center) in Montgomery. Although she retired in 1997, she continued to work part time until 2005. In 2004, her work was recognized when she received the Pam Wolfe RN Service Award from the Medical Society of Montgomery County.

Opal Anderson is survived by her husband, six children and 19 grandchildren. (TAB)
