LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Wayne Dehoney, president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) from 1964 until 1966, died Nov. 15 at a health and rehabilitation center in Louisville, Ky. He was 89.
He was pastor of Walnut Street Baptist Church, Louisville, Ky., from 1967 until 1985. He also served as pastor of Central Park Baptist Church, Birmingham, early in his career.
In addition, Dehoney served as a member of the SBC Executive Committee and the former Christian Life Commission (now Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission) and as a trustee chairman at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. He also served as a professor of evangelism and preaching at Southern Seminary during his career and was co-founder of Dehoney Travel, a Christian tour company specializing in trips to the Holy Land.
