Bower Memorial youth help in Tuscaloosacomment (0)

In 2011, like 2010, the youth of Bower Memorial Baptist Church, Evergreen, made plans to go to MFuge, a LifeWay missions event.
It was to be in New Orleans.
But after the April 27 tornadoes marred Alabama’s landscape and scarred countless lives, the youth of this Conecuh Baptist Association church approached their leader about a change in plans.
Pastor Jim Griffin said the students told his wife, Miriam, who is the youth and children’s administrator, that they felt led to go on an in-state missions trip instead.
As a result, the students and their chaperons — about a dozen people in all — traveled to storm-ravaged Tuscaloosa County in June. Cottondale Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa Baptist Association hosted the group.
The group sorted supplies at a Salvation Army distribution center, served meals at a Salvation Army canteen and helped Forest Lake Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, with cleanup and organization.
This was the first experience with disaster relief for some students, Griffin said.
