“Liberty Baptist Church (Brookwood) was full of smiling, welcoming faces on the morning ... they celebrated their 175th anniversary,” said Lonette Berg, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission. “(They are) very sweet people who love the Lord and love to worship.”
In fact, people — specifically the charter and current members — were the focus of the recent anniversary celebration, which was primarily organized by Theresa Bell, wife of Pastor Mike Bell.
C.T. Ethridge was recognized for serving as associate pastor of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Association church since 1964.
Mike Bell delivered the day’s sermon, and Director of Missions Dan Wiggins read the history of the church and offered some words of appreciation and encouragement.
The music was led by Ethridge’s wife, Joan, and special music was provided by Called Out.
Berg presented the church with a framed certificate commemorating the special occasion.
Following a break in the service, the 97 attendees enjoyed lunch in the fellowship hall.
Each person received a booklet with photos and highlights of the church’s history as well a keepsake bookmark with former pastors’ names listed.
