Richard Alan “Ricky” Coburn, pastor of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Plantersville, was killed early Oct. 19 in a motorcycle crash. He was 53.
Coburn grew up in the Billingsley area, graduating from Billingsley High School in 1977. He served several Alabama Baptist churches as a bivocational pastor, including Providence Baptist Church, Rockford; Mount Bethel Baptist Church, Clanton; Alpine Baptist Church, Plantersville; Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Clanton; and Mount Carmel Baptist Church No. 1, Thorsby. While serving in pastoral roles he took classes toward a certificate in Christian training through Beeson Divinity School’s extension division.
He also worked as a logistics supervisor at CRH North America Inc., a manufacturing plant in Clanton.
Coburn collided with a deer that was crossing the highway while he was riding to work, Alabama state troopers said.
Coburn is survived by his wife of 32 years, Belda; two children; and one grandchild.
