90 percent success rate in TB treatmentcomment (0)

Baptist Global Response (BGR) partners have seen a TB cure/treatment completion rate of greater than 90 percent in a community-based program in five districts of one rural Central Asian province.
More than 1,500 workers were trained to supervise the treatment of TB patients in over 1,000 villages. Others were educated about the signs and symptoms of TB as the newly trained workers shared what they had learned with their friends and neighbors.
In this province, many young mothers with small children are diagnosed with tuberculosis. For one woman, this was her second time to be diagnosed with TB. The first time she was living outside the province and did not have the option of trained workers to supervise her medication. She did not finish the course of treatment and consequently relapsed. She was so thankful for the community-based program because she believes she will get well and have the opportunity to help her children grow up. (BGR)
