I read with much interest your May 30 cover story about church revitalization, and I pray this new venture will bear much fruit.
However in reading the 10 questions highlighted for the churches, I think a good one would have been, “Do you feel that the Holy Spirit is moving in your church?”
In the ’90s I was fortunate enough to do volunteer work for the late Dr. Stephen F. Olford’s Encounter Ministries in Memphis, a “ministry to ministers.” Seminars for ministers from wide areas were held, and Dr. Olford greatly emphasized to them that the source of power in the pulpits comes from the fullness of the Holy Spirit. One of my most memorable tasks there was transcribing a tape in which Dr. Olford told how he and Billy Graham “holed up” in a flat in London for several days seeking more depth of the Holy
Spirit. Both were preaching at the time.
I accepted Christ as Savior at age 12 but only came to know the complete filling of the Holy Spirit at age 42. That marvelous experience happened when someone instructed me and other members of our Bible study that more power in our Christian walk was possible.
People who feel their religion is dry and dusty need more instruction from the pulpits on growing deeper in Christ via the Holy Spirit.
Dr. Olford’s teachings are still available via Olford Ministries International.
