If you are familiar with John Maxwell’s books on leadership, you are aware of the idea of leading from a Christian perspective. In “Leading From Our Knees,” Joe Turnham has put biblical precepts for leadership into devotional form. The precepts seem equally instructive for Christian leaders in the religious and secular arenas.
But wait. Before you decide you don’t need another devotional book, consider this: This book is more than just a nice way to start your day. Each day’s devotional does follow the standard model of a passage of Scripture, a narrative based on the passage and a suggested prayer, but the resemblance to the standard model ends there.
“Leading From Our Knees” is worthy of careful, thoughtful reading — and re-reading. While the devotional format works well, the book could just as easily have been presented as a study of biblical leaders and leadership. In addition to the 365 daily devotions, the book contains a series of helpful indexes to the topics, Scriptures and biblical characters (I counted about 200) appearing in the devotions. The book is well crafted and well written — an invitation to prayerful, biblical leadership.
