FBC Pelham’s Pastor Shaw to retire in 2014

After 35 years of serving as pastor of First Baptist Church, Pelham, Mike Shaw plans to retire May 31, 2014.

Shaw’s first pastorate started in July 1971 at Carrollton Avenue Baptist Church, New Orleans, La. He served as pastor of Munford Baptist Church (1973–1976) and of Millry Baptist Church (1976–1979) before he was called to serve as pastor of First, Pelham, on May 15, 1979.

Besides serving as a pastor, Shaw has served as president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention for two terms (2010–2012), on the board of directors for The Alabama Baptist for two terms (1987–1995) and as The Alabama Baptist’s chairman of the board (1993–1995).

Shaw and his wife, Mary, have two children and three grandchildren. They plan to stay in the area and remain members of First, Pelham.
