A Global Development Consultation will precede the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) annual gathering in Izmir, Turkey, in July 2014. The event, set for July 5–6, is sponsored by Baptist World Aid, the relief and development arm of the BWA.
The consultation aims to bring together Baptist leaders from across the world who are members of aid and development agencies or nongovernment organizations, leaders of Baptist conventions or regional bodies who are engaged in aid and development work, or those who are coordinating supporters for aid, relief and development programs.
Participants will consult with each other as part of a process to understand the work Baptists are doing separately and together, to learn from each other, to engage in active discussion, to determine opportunities for future cooperation and mutual capacity building; and to worship together and pray for each other, the various ministries the participants are part of and for the persons being served.
There will be a mix of practical and theological discussions, debates and feedback. Discussions also will spill over into the BWA annual gathering, which is to be held at the same venue from July 7–12, some of which will be done in collaboration with the BWA divisions of Missions, Evangelism and Theological Reflection and Freedom and Justice.
Registration and other information will be available on the BWA website by the beginning of 2014.
