Want to know God?comment (0)

Salem Baptist Church, Brundidge

I grew up spending Saturday mornings watching Bugs Bunny cartoons. One of the recurring scenes shows Bugs tunneling under the ground and popping out of his rabbit hole expecting to have arrived at his destination. He soon realizes he is not where he thought he would be. He then pulls out his map and exclaims, “I knew I should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque.”

Many of us can identify with hoping to have arrived at a particular destination in life only to realize we took a wrong turn somewhere. There is one wrong turn that all of us have taken. It is the path of sin. Our sin is disobedience to God’s commands. It is falling short of His requirements. As a result, we become separated from God. Life apart from God has no real direction. Without God life has no real meaning or purpose. However, God has given us a road map that will lead us back to Him. The first stop on God’s road map is realizing that sin is our problem. We have all sinned (Rom. 3:23). The result of sin is death. This death is not just physical death, it is spiritual too. The good news is that God has given us the eternal life through the gift of His Son, Jesus (Rom. 6:23).

Jesus did something for mankind that we could never do for ourselves. He paid the price for our sins. Jesus is the only person who ever lived and kept God’s commands. His perfect sacrifice pays for all the wrong turns you have ever made (Rom. 5:8). Your life can have a new direction and a new meaning and purpose as you begin a relationship with Jesus. You can do this by praying a simple prayer. The Bible says to “call upon the name of the Lord” (Rom. 10:13). Salvation is not earned, but it can be received. There are two turns you must make in order to be saved. First you must repent. To repent is to turn away from sin. Admit your sins to God. He already knows about them anyway. The second turn is faith. When you turn away from sin, you must turn to Jesus. Trust that Jesus has taken your sins away through His death on the cross. Would you like to know God? Turn your life over to Him today.
