If you own an iPhone and are looking for an alarm clock to use, there’s an app for that. Actually there are more than 6,000 apps for that. They range from the “Alarm Clock HD” that enables you to read your Facebook posts in the morning to the “Wake and Shake Alarm Clock” that requires you to shake your phone furiously to shut off the noise.

So when it comes to alarm clock options to help us get going in the morning, there are plenty of them. Sometimes, however, that’s just not enough. We need something more. As one person put it, “I’ve got a clock that tells me when to get up. I just need one that tells me why.”

Perhaps you can relate with that. Outwardly you seem to have a great life going. You’ve got a decent job, a nice family and good friends. It ought to be enough, but it isn’t. Somewhere deep inside there’s a longing for something more, but you just can’t seem to put your finger on what that something more is.

Have you ever considered that maybe what you’re missing is a connection with God? That’s what a man named Augustine discovered more than 1,500 years ago. After giving himself to everything his world had to offer, he came to realize that what he needed most was a relationship with God through Christ.

He would later write, “You have made us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless, until they can find rest in You.”

If you feel that restlessness inside and have never opened your life to God, then you are missing the very foundation on which life is built. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). That’s what God wants for everyone.

You can experience that life by trusting Christ to forgive your sins and allowing Him to be the leader of your life.

So if you’re looking for a real reason to get going in the morning, I have good news. There’s a God for that.
