Don Yancey, who served as director of missions (DOM) for Alabama-Crenshaw Baptist Association for the past seven years, retired as DOM on May 29.
Yancey taught as a math teacher, worked as a coach and as an assistant principal at Greenville High School beginning in 1971 and later was the principal of Greenville Middle School, working in the area school system for 34 years.
While he was teaching, he began serving as a bivocational pastor for several churches in Butler Baptist Association. He began leading Liberty Baptist Church, Greenville, in 1984 and later served as bivocational pastor for Ebenezer East Baptist Church and Damascus Baptist Church, both in Greenville. He also served as interim bivocational pastor of First Baptist Church, Greenville.
In 2007, Yancey became DOM of Alabama-Crenshaw Association. He said he is retiring from his position as DOM but plans to continue in ministry wherever the Lord leads.
On June 1, a fellowship tea was held in honor of Yancey’s time as DOM at South Luverne Baptist Church, Luverne.
He and his wife, Glenda, have two children and five grandchildren.
