The official position statement "A Southern Baptist Declaration on the Environment and Climate Change" published by the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) March 10 is troubling. While the organization has in the recent past tiptoed around this issue, we have not until today seen an outright embrace of this liberal-driven cause.
For the past two years, James Dobson of Focus on the Family and Charles Colson, founder and director of Prison Fellowship ministries, have been outspoken on this issue and the obvious fact of gross exaggeration used by Al Gore and the liberal Democratic community.
This matter is more than just about the safeguarding of our atmosphere. One would be most naive to simply believe the wild predictions by the global warming doom naysayers based on simply the preachings of Al Gore and his cronies. Have we all forgotten that in the 1970s major media was promoting the "coming ice age"?
I urge the leadership of our Southern Baptist Convention to be about serving our member churches, evangelizing and bringing lost souls to Christ. To those currently choosing to carry the liberal environmental torches, perhaps you should consider leaving the organization and entering politics. The two do not mix — at all.
