Remembering some special peoplecomment (0)

Staff members of The Alabama Baptist gather every Wednesday morning to start the day with prayer.
We mention prayer needs of our churches, our friends, our families, fellow Baptists in Alabama, missionaries, persecuted Christians and lost people.
Since early last year, one person constantly in our prayers has been the son of our editor’s administrative assistant, Teresa Maddox.
Last week we rejoiced in Kenny’s safe return from serving with his fellow Marines in Iraq. On the evening before the plane brought their son’s group home, Teresa and her husband were interviewed on a local television station, along with Kenny’s fiancee, Amber. It was quite inspiring to hear them as they awaited his arrival. Their Christian faith was very evident.
Another person who keeps up with servicemen overseas is Sharron Murphy, secretary for Bluff Park Baptist Church in Hoover. Her husband is serving in Afghanistan. Their 10th wedding anniversary was March 22.
Sharron noted that Chris is “not only the spiritual leader of our family but also a man of honor and courage. He is a fantastic person.”
Sharron promotes a very worthwhile endeavor, the Wounded Warrior Project. It fills the vital need for a coordinated, united effort to enable wounded veterans to aid and assist each other and to help them readjust to civilian life. You can learn more about it at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
Some fine patriotic music with violin solo is available on CD from Bill Chilton of Alabaster, a popular speaker and violinist. He may be contacted at 205-620-0492.
This will be the last article of “Spreading the Word” before my retirement on March 31. I have gathered some wonderful memories during 24 years of working at The Alabama Baptist.
I have treasured friendships with staff members at the paper through the years. We have had many weddings and funerals. Allow me to first mention those friends who are still working here now: Dr. Bob Terry; Teresa Maddox and her husband, Richard, who helps us with computers; Thomas Felder; Debbie Campbell; Jennifer Rash; Erin Webster; Grace Thornton; Maxine Cordle; Rebecca Marsh, Melanie Brasseale; Lauren Chow; Sue Ann Miller and Patti Tyra.
It has been a pleasure to work with a lot of other good people in this building over the years: Dr. Hudson Baggett, Jack Brymer, Mark Baggett, Kathleen Prude, Maxine Griffith, Gene Kelser, Iva Jewel Tucker, Bobbie Maxwell, Lisa Freeman, Sondra Nichols, Karen and David Lowry, Dianne Casolaro, Vicki Foster, Melissa Tucker, Teresa Brasher, Linda Cato, Linda Espey, Debra Willie, Keith and Willa Dean Hinson, Laurie Lattimore, Rebecca Day, Carrie McWhorter, Rex Harrell, Anthony Wade, Jason Skinner, Mark Watkins, Greg Heyman, Kevin Criswell, Jennifer Goode, Julia Cain, Malinda McGill, Nancy Whittington, Melanie Morris, Leigh Dawson, Anita Yother, Dianna Cagle and Genee Duckett. Each is a special soul. I apologize, for I am sure my aging brain has overlooked a number of good folks. Thanks to you all!
