Dorothy “Dot” Mitchell became a member of Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church, Midfield, July 11, 1937, at the age of 16. Since then, she has served the church in various capacities such as teaching Sunday School and working in Training Union, Woman’s Missionary Union, Mission Friends, Girls’ Auxiliary, Young Woman’s Auxiliary and Vacation Bible School. Upon joining the church, Mitchell also joined its adult choir. She remains an active member of the choir to this day.

Q: What led you to be so involved in the church?
A: My father and mother were good Christians. They taught me to put first things first, and that was the Lord’s work. I was taught to stick with things.

Q: What do you get from the ministry?
A: It’s been a life I did not expect, but it’s thrilled me to death. I love the choir. As long as I live, I want to stay in.

Q: How has the church supported you?
A: One hundred percent. I don’t know of anything I couldn’t go to my church with that they wouldn’t help me with. When I broke my leg, they helped me out.

Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I have good health and I’m staying involved until I’m not able. I love it. I love my church.

Q: What difference do you believe your involvement will have in the future?
A: I think it will hopefully show people that you don’t have to leave or not stay involved just because you get old. Music is my special thing, and if you have half a voice, you can still be in the choir.
