MeadowBrook Baptist Church, Gadsden, in Etowah Baptist Association is home to a new support group for those who have loved ones who are living a homosexual lifestyle.
Begun by MeadowBrook Baptist members Chuck and Sharon Young, Renewed Hope exists "as a Christian support group to offer hope and encouragement to friends and family of those affected by homosexuality," Sharon Young said. The group, which held its first meeting in January, meets every third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
The seeds for Renewed Hope were sown when Young’s daughter began practicing a homosexual lifestyle many years ago, she said. Her experiences and pain made her want to reach out to others going through the same things.
The group also welcomes those who formerly practiced homosexuality or those interested in learning more about helping those facing this.
MeadowBrook Baptist’s pastor, Randy Gunter, and members have been very supportive, Young said.
The meetings, which last about two hours, typically feature a speaker and then a time where members can ask questions, share experiences and encourage each other. Adults of any age are welcome.
