Two Fayette churches host fishing outreach eventcomment (0)

November 16, 2006

When two churches in Fayette went fishing for men recently — literally — nearly 40 people accepted Christ as their Savior during a four-day fishing event held Oct. 5–8.

First Baptist and Southside Baptist, both in Fayette Baptist Association, sponsored a bass tournament at Aliceville Lake, a children’s fishing event at a nearby private pond and other related activities — all in an effort to win their community for Christ, according to Robert Parrish, pastor of Southside Baptist.

The weekend started with a pre-tournament banquet Oct. 5 with a message by Terry Chupp of Team Jesus Ministries, an organization geared toward ministering to professional and amateur fishermen across the nation. After the fishing events Oct. 7, First, Fayette, hosted a fish fry, where Chupp again presented a salvation message. The next day, he also preached messages at Southside Baptist in the morning and First, Fayette, in the evening.

Over the course of the weekend, 39 people accepted Christ and 21 people made public rededications of their lives.

"We know this seems like an unusual event for a church to be presenting, but it served as an Intentional Evangelism outreach to win souls who would probably never attend a traditional service," Parrish said. "This type of event is something any church of any size can do as an outreach ministry."
