FBC Brewton’s Winton writes book for sons, fathers comment (0)

Randy Winton decided to write a life letter to his sons one day. At the time, he could not have imagined that this letter would be the inspiration for a published book.
Winton, minister to students at First Baptist Church, Brewton, in Escambia Baptist Association, spent 17 years as a sports writer before he surrendered to God’s call to student ministry. He then met his wife, Rachel, and just over a year after they married, their twin boys were born.
The 1999 Columbine school tragedy in Colorado gave Winton the idea for the letter. “No kid should feel like they aren’t loved,” he said. “I then sat down and wrote a letter to my boys to let them know how they are loved.”
Winton continued writing letters for the next few years. He was writing about experiences he and the boys had together and then decided to add a biblical principle, showing the heavenly Father’s love as well. As he continued writing, he realized it could be inspirational for other fathers as well as his sons, which now total four — Joshua, Caleb, Noah and Jonah.
So Winton wrote the book “In My Shoes.” Released by Tate Publishing Aug. 26, the book is available in all major bookstores.
