Wilda Jones is the founder and current director of In-Home/In-Touch Ministry at First Baptist Church, Sylacauga. Founded in 1991, the ministry reaches out to those in nursing homes and others unable to be actively involved in a church. Along with other volunteers, Jones goes out monthly to visit and encourage those enrolled in the program, in addition to holding weekly Bible studies, writing them letters and calling them on a regular basis.

Q: What led you to found In-Home/In-Touch Ministry?
A: My heart has always felt for those who were homebound and to those who cannot be active in the church. I just felt that was my gift.

Q: Why have you continued through the years?
A: Because I have felt it is one of the great ministries of our church. It’s been a natural ministry to me, moving beyond the walls of the church.

Q: What does the ministry demand?
A: It requires faithfulness in doing some work monthly and continually loving and reaching out in compassion to others.

Q: How do family members and others support you?
A: My husband has always been a great support, and the church has greatly welcomed and appreciated all we have done. There is just a whole lot of people who are involved in all of this.

Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?

A: For as long as I am able to be a giver, I plan to do that and then, one day, become a receiver.
