Retired Alabama Baptist pastor John Milton Green died Dec. 7. He was 79.

Born in Sylacauga, Green attended Samford University in Birmingham, where he received his master’s degree in theology.

He served as pastor for several Baptist churches in the Coosa River Baptist Association. These include Russell Chapel Baptist Church, Sylacauga; Mount Sharon Baptist Church, Childersburg; Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Talladega, and Talladega Springs Baptist Church, Sylacauga. He was also the former chaplain of Coosa Valley Medical Center, the Childersburg Police Department and the Childersburg Work Release Center.

Green had also served in the Air Force as well as owned his own orchid business.

He received the Bivocational Minister of the Year award from Samford in 1997.

At the time of death, he was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, Childersburg, in Coosa River Association.

He is survived by his wife, Bobby Sue; seven children; 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. (TAB)
