Jenny Weathers uses cooking as a ministry. At age 80, she has cooked meals for seniors and bereaved church members for many years.
Q: What led you to start cooking for others?
A: I’ve always enjoyed cooking.
Our former pastor would go out and visit people when he heard that someone passed away and find out they needed food. He would tell me and my friend Barbara, and we would cook food and carry it to them.
Now our church is so large that I minister more to people in the church than outside the church.
Q: Why have you continued this activity?
A: It’s just something that we could do that we thought was a good deed for the families. I just do what I can do, and that’s what I’ve always done.
It’s a lot of people that really need the help.
Q: What do you get from the ministry?
A: I get a good blessing because I know the Lord has blessed me.
Because of my age, I’ve had a lot of trials.
I turn it over to Him, and He takes care of me. I’ve always enjoyed doing it. It gives me a good feeling.
Q: How do family members support you?
A: They support me. I’ve got a son who loves to cook for people about as much as I do.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this in the future?
A: I’m going to keep on as long as the Lord lets me keep going, as long as I’m able.
