Retired Alabama pastor James R. “Ronnie” Venable died May 30. He was 56.

Venable grew up as a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Trussville, in St. Clair Baptist Association. Ordained there Nov. 25, 1984, he went on to serve more than 20 years as a pastor in St. Clair Association.

He served Oak Grove Baptist No. 1, Springville; Macedonia Baptist No. 1, Margaret; First Baptist, Pinedale, in Springville; and most recently Mount Moriah Baptist, Pell City. He was also a member of the Alabama Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists.

Venable received a minister of the year award from Birmingham’s Samford University in 1998.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.C. Venable, and his sister.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joan; their two children, Jeff Venable and Sheila DeShazo; seven grandchildren; his mother, Ruth Venable; and one sister.  (TAB)
