Mark Wakefield has taken on the role of disaster relief and chaplaincy ministry strategist for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM), effective Sept. 1. In this role he will coordinate all Disaster Relief efforts for the state and oversee the work of chaplains.
Wakefield joined the SBOM staff in January 2013. He has served as a Southern Baptist Disaster Relief chaplain since 2005 and as a chaplain for Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Moulton Police Department, Alabama State Troopers and Lawrence Medical Center. In total he’s served in emergency-related roles for 30 years.
Wakefield said he is thankful to step into his new role at SBOM because great leaders like Mel Johnson and Tommy Puckett before him have “built a great organization.”
He previously served as associate pastor of Moulton Baptist Church. He also ministered at Wear Baptist Church, Moulton; Providence Baptist Church, Town Creek; Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Hartselle; and Old Spanish Fort Baptist Church, Spanish Fort.
Wakefield holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mobile, a master of divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) and a doctorate, also from NOBTS.
He and his wife, Debbie, have a daughter and one granddaughter. (TAB)
