US Department of State urges travelers to ‘exercise vigilance’ during holidays

Americans should be careful when traveling to Europe over the holidays this year, as the U.S. Department of State warns that radical groups may be planning attacks.

“Credible information indicates the Islamic State (IS), al-Qaeda, and their affiliates continue to plan terrorist attacks in Europe, with a focus on the upcoming holiday season and associated events,” warned the Department’s alert released to the public Nov. 21.

In the past year, IS has committed acts of terrorism in Belgium, France, Germany and Turkey and has vowed to continue such attacks in the West, according to The Christian Post.

The warning urged travelers to “exercise vigilance when attending large holiday events, visiting tourist sites, using public transportation and frequenting places of worship, restaurants and hotels.”

It also noted that officials in Europe continue to fight against terrorism, conducting raids and stopping terror plots, and that U.S. leaders continue to work alongside them in the international fight against such attacks. (TAB)
