Southern Baptist representative shares hope in midst of ALS diagnosis

On a bright spring day in rural Missouri, Mary Harper’s eyes well with tears as she plucks rocks from the garden of her family’s home near Springfield.

The 42-year-old slowly makes her way down a row marked “Spinach,” using her left hand to toss dozens of stones into a trailer made from the bed of an old pickup. Her right arm hangs at her side, emaciated, its fingers slightly contorted — the first victim of a disease that will likely take her life.

Global Hunger Relief Fund

Global Hunger Relief will follow precisely the same guidelines used with the World Hunger Fund. As with the World Hunger Fund, funds will continue to be distributed 80–20 between international and North American causes.

Samford University alum Tony Hale wins Emmy Award

Tony Haley, a 1992 Samford University in Birmingham graduate, was the surprise winner of the Emmy Award for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Gary Walsh in the HBO series "Veep," awarded during the Sept. 22 live telecast.
