Alabama Baptists help make community security training event a success

More than 200 people participated in the Aug. 14 Active Shooter Preparedness Workshop held at The Baptist Church at McAdory, McCalla.

Along with the workshop leaders from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security National Protection and Programs Directorate Office of Infrastructure Protection, participants heard from other leaders.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharpe; Jay Town from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and John Merrill, Alabama Secretary of State, also spoke.

The one-day training was co-sponsored by the FBI, InfraGard Birmingham Member Alliance, InfraGard Huntsville Member Alliance, Birmingham Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Northern Alabama and The Alabama Baptist.

Sponsors also assisted with the workshop, providing audio visual needs, food and other essentials for the day. The sponsors were Powerhouse Sound, Integrated Solutions, Kassouf & Co., ALSCAN, Lightwave Solutions, Counter Threat Group and Firehouse Subs.

The workshop described how to incorporate key elements of successful incident management into planning efforts. Along with the educational aspect, the ability to network with like-minded people in other companies, businesses and groups provided an added bonus. (TAB)
