Alabaster’s Westwood to host safety training

Westwood Baptist Church, Alabaster, is hosting the Safety Ministry Alliance of Alabama on June 10. Organizational discussions will take place from 10 a.m.  to noon and an on-site lunch will be held until 1 p.m. Special training will go until 4:30 p.m. where Reggie Parker, senior negotiator of the Hoover Police Department, will lead de-escalation techniques.

The recently formed alliance aims to assist any faith-based organization with a security program or anyone wishing to establish a program with a time to share ideas and receive training, said Spruce McRee, director of security at Crosscreek Baptist Church, Pelham, and fire chief of Brierfield Fire and Rescue.

“We have found that [so] many churches wish to protect their flock but are uncertain just how to go about it. That is our goal,” he said, noting Proverbs 27:12: “A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
