Falwell agrees to leave of absence from Liberty

Jerry Falwell Jr. has agreed to an immediate leave of absence from his roles as president and chancellor of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, according to a statement posted on the school’s website earlier today (Aug. 7).

It reads: “The Executive Committee of Liberty University’s Board of Trustees, acting on behalf of the full Board, met today and requested that Jerry Falwell, Jr. take an indefinite leave of absence from his roles as President and Chancellor of Liberty University, to which he has agreed, effective immediately.”

Falwell has made headlines for various reasons the past few years. The most recent controversy resulted from a social media post while reportedly vacationing with friends on a yacht.

Falwell posted a crude photo of himself with his arm around a female Liberty employee on Instagram, according to media reports.

He later deleted the photo noting it was “just in good fun,” though some have pointed out that students at Liberty could be fined and possibly even kicked out of school if they posted something similar, according to Relevant magazine. (TAB)
