FBC Trussville to host Child Protection Workshop

FBC Trussville to host Child Protection Workshop

When it comes to protecting children, youth and other vulnerable people, your church can never be too prepared. That’s why the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions is partnering with GuideStone Financial Resources to sponsor the Child Protection Workshop on July 18 at First Baptist Church, Trussville, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The workshop is designed to equip churches and ministries with the tools they need to protect their most at-risk members from sexual abuse.

The speakers are Greg Love and Kimberlee Norris, a husband-and-wife team of attorneys who are experts in legal matters related to sexual abuse of children. They have been providing crisis response to ministries and churches nationwide for years and run an organization called MinistrySafe that offers resources for churches on this subject.

“We can’t stop it everywhere but we can say, ‘Not with my kids, not on my watch, not in the name of Jesus in my ministry,’” Norris said.

The Child Protection Workshop will cover these and other topics:

• Awareness — what you need to know

• Safety system — what you need to do

• Getting the tools and preparing

• Effective screening process.
