Former Baptist missionary charged with sexual assault

Mark Aderholt, a former International Mission Board (IMB) missionary and more recently a former employee of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, has been charged with sexual assault. The latest reports indicate the IMB knew about the allegations in 2007 but did not report them to authorities.

Aderholt, 46, was arrested July 3, 2018, in South Carolina on charges of sexual assault of a child under 17, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

The offense allegedly occurred in Arlington, Texas, in 1997, and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Officials from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, confirmed that Aderholt was a student at the seminary when the crime was allegedly committed.
