Judson College to host annual Christmas Tea and Vespers Dec. 7

The administration, faculty, and students of Judson College cordially invite Judson guests and the community to campus to attend the College’s annual Christmas Tea and Vespers service on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Both events are free and open to the public.

Christmas Tea, Judson College’s annual semi-formal open house Christmas event, will be hosted by the Judson College Social Committee in the Gladys H. Dunkin Parlors of Jewett Hall from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The celebration of Christmas Vespers, presented by the Judson College Department of Music, will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Alumnae Auditorium. The theme, “Love to the Least of These,” is centered on the circumstances of Christ’s birth, with particular focus on the community of the poor and lowly who were present at the manger.

The Judson Singers, under the direction of Jessica Spafford, assistant professor of music, will lead a varied program, performing such works as Randall Stroope’s “Magnificat” and Lowry and Green’s “Mary Did You Know?”, in addition to leading congregational singing. The program will also include a special offering of “O Holy Night” by Spafford, who also serves as head of the music department.

“The Vespers service maintains a running narrative about humility and love, and focuses on how we can prepare our hearts to be ready to do God’s work during this Advent and Christmas season,” said Spafford. The Scriptural narration and commentary will be given by Stephanie Peek, assistant professor of religion, and Lesley Sheek, professor of education.
