SCWC, TAB sponsor second annual Christian book expo in Birmingham

The second annual Southern Christian Book Expo was held Feb. 1 at Lakeside Baptist Church, Birmingham.

More than 70 authors from Alabama and surrounding states gathered to show off their books. Genres varied from crime, mystery and thriller to memoir, devotional and children’s.

This year featured the first-ever Southern Christian Notable Book Awards with more than 40 entries.

Four winners were chosen — one in each category: fiction, traditionally published — “Murder in the Family” by Ramona Richards; fiction, self-published — “The Girl I Left Behind” by Stephanie Bain; nonfiction, traditionally published — “The Ground Kisser” by Thanh Duong Boyer with Lisa Worthey Smith; and nonficition, self-published — “[Un]intentional” by Doug Smith.

The TAB News podcast also was represented at the book expo, which is sponsored by the Southern Christian Writers Conference (SCWC) and The Alabama Baptist/TAB Media.
