Debbie Campbell, Director of Communications

Debbie began working at The Alabama Baptist on Jan. 3, 1998. She served as a proofreader with the editorial department and local edition coordinator before assuming the role of director of circulation and public relations on April 1, 2005. She became director of communications in January 2019. Her earlier employment includes management positions with Neiman Marcus and Dallas Fire & Life Insurance Co. A native Texan, Debbie graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Texas, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in the fields of speech and journalism. Janet Erwin, Executive Editor

Janet Erwin

Janet was employed by The Alabama Baptist on Jan. 1, 2019. She entered this position from serving 12 and a half years at national WMU as the editor of Missions Mosaic magazine and various other publications. Prior to that she worked as a fifth grade teacher and library assistant at Highland Park Elementary School in Stillwater, Oklahoma, for four years. Janet served as an IMB missionary for 19 years serving in the Bahamas, Barbados, with Caribbean Christian Communications, and Latvia. She graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Christian Education degree. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration (concentration in accounting) from Athens State University and an Associate of Science degree in business administration from Calhoun Community College. She is an editor, writer, conference leader, teacher and member of the Pelham Library Guild. Her son, Trent, and his family reside in Memphis, Tennessee. Her other son, Trey, teaches Business English in Colombia. She and her husband, Monte, are active members of Shades Crest Baptist Church, Bluff Park. Sarah Gill, Customer Relations

Sarah joined The Alabama Baptist team in April 2017 as a customer relations representative. She is originally from Albertville and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in landscape design and horticulture from Auburn University. She has experience in church software training and customer technology support. Sarah and her husband, Bryan, have a son, Charles, and a daughter, Perri. Bill Gilmore, Director of Sales

Bill joined The Alabama Baptist in February 2012. Bill is a graduate of Penn State with an Associate of Science in business administration. He started his career in newspaper advertising in 1999 with Gannett as a sales supervisor in Pensacola, Florida. He was promoted to retail advertising manager for the Daily Advertiser and Daily World in Lafayette, Louisiana. He also served as the classified advertising manager for The Montgomery Advertiser in Montgomery as well as classified advertising manager for The Blade in Toledo, Ohio. He then returned to Alabama with The Times Daily (a New York Times newspaper) in Florence as the advertising director. With the sale of the publication and management not being retained by the new owners, he joined the Meridian Star (CNHI Newspaper Group) in Meridian, Mississippi, in the role of advertising director. He is a native of Western Pennsylvania and a Steeler fan who moved south in 1993 with his wife, Renee. Lauren C. Grim, Creative Services Manager

Lauren has been employed by The Alabama Baptist since Aug. 10, 2004. She joined the staff as an editorial intern and then was appointed part-time web/advertising assistant on Jan. 1, 2005. On April 1, 2006, she became the full-time graphic designer. She became the creative services manager in January 2019. A native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Lauren received a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design at Mississippi College. She has earned 16 hours in theological studies at Beeson Divinity School. She and her husband, Myles, live in Hernando, Mississippi. They have a daughter, Alana, and a son, Mason, and are members of Hernando Baptist Church. Amy Hacker, Customer Relations Representative

Amy joined the staff of The Alabama Baptist in August 2016 and currently serves in customer relations. She has varied experiences in all office support and customer relation functions. Amy has three children: Brooklyn, Ethan and Seth. They enjoy spending time traveling and playing golf. James Hammack, Digital Services Manager

James Hammack

James joined The Alabama Baptist team in November 2016 and began full time in January 2019 as Digital Services Manager. He is originally from the Tuscaloosa area and earned his Bachelor’s degree in biology from Auburn University at Montgomery. He has experience in web development and design. James and his wife, Alicia, have a son, Jace, and daughters, Ellie Bre and Abigail. They live in Prattville and are members of HisWay Community Church. Linda Harrison, Financial Administrator

Linda joined the staff of The Alabama Baptist in November 2010. She has previously worked for several companies in the Birmingham area holding positions of staff accountant, accounting manager and controller. Linda holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Alabama Birmingham, one in accounting, the other in finance. Linda and her husband, James, have three children and eight grandchildren who they consider the “lights of their lives.” They attend Church of the Highlands, Fultondale. Pam Holt, Advertising Contractor

Pam has been employed at The Alabama Baptist since July 2008 and moved to an outside advertising sales representative position in 2015. Prior to coming to the paper she owned a retail business in the Fairhope area, worked with an international company as corporate manager of benefits in human resources and also has several years of sales experience working in the health care industries. She was one of the original people to organize and start Riverchase United Methodist Church, Hoover, where she remains a member. Jessica Ingram, Production Manager

Jessica has been a full-time employee of The Alabama Baptist since July 1, 2018. She began working as an editorial and marketing intern in October 2017. Jessica graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and achieved a certificate of publishing from the Denver Publishing Institute in August 2017. Before joining The Alabama Baptist she interned at national Woman’s Missionary Union, headquartered in Birmingham, and worked part-time at the Homewood Public Library. Deborah Lowery, Financial Assistant

Deb has been employed with The Alabama Baptist since 2009. She spent more than 20 years as a stay-at-home mom, wife and home educator to two of her children and one of her grandchildren. Prior to that she worked in real estate accounting for 15 years, the last six years of that time employed with Sloss Development Group as their financial assistant and assistant property manager. Deb and her husband, Wes, have served with Mayan Missions in Central America, Belize evangelizing and working with several vacation Bible schools. Melanie McKinney, Advertising Manager

Melanie joined the staff of The Alabama Baptist in February 2001 as the advertising assistant and became advertising manager in January 2019. Prior to coming to The Alabama Baptist she was an administrative assistant at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Birmingham, for nine years. She also taught kindergarten for two years right after college and later served on staff with the Weekday Education program at Dawson. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University. Melanie is married to Terry McKinney. Together they have five children and five grandchildren. They are members of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Birmingham. Carrie Brown McWhorter, Content Editor

Carrie has worked with The Alabama Baptist since 1995, when she joined the editorial staff as a part-time news writer. From 1996 to 2018 she contributed many articles and worked on special assignments as a freelance writer and editor. On Jan. 1, 2019, she was appointed full-time content editor. Carrie graduated from the University of Alabama in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in Spanish. She received a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Alabama in 1995 and a Master’s Degree in English from the University of West Georgia in 2003. From 1998 to 2018 she taught English at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. Carrie and her husband, Owen, live in Fruithurst, Alabama. They have one son, Avery, and one daughter, Stella. Hannah Munoz, Digital Editor

Hannah first came to The Alabama Baptist as an intern in March 2014 where she served with the editorial team until her graduation from Samford University in May 2017. She then transitioned to a full-time role in customer relations and became the new digital editor at the beginning of 2019. While serving as an intern, Hannah also worked part-time at WIAT-CBS 42 News in Birmingham. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in journalism and mass communication and Spanish and a minor in Latin American studies. Haley Piersol, Digital Services Associate

Haley began working full-time at The Alabama Baptist on April 25, 2005. She earned an Associate degree in computer networking and a Bachelor’s degree in business from Herzing College. Jennifer Davis Rash, President and Editor-in-Chief

Jennifer Davis Rash serves as president and editor-in-chief of The Alabama Baptist.
A native of Phil Campbell, Rash earned her associate’s degree from Northwest Community College, her bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Alabama and her master of theological studies from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham.
Rash came to TAB in January 1996 as a news writer and worked her way up to managing editor then executive editor before being named editor-elect in 2015 and then the first female editor of a major Baptist newspaper beginning Jan. 1, 2019. Throughout the years she has helped lead the editorial team to win more than 250 national awards.
While on staff at TAB, Rash has served in a variety of national and local leadership roles. She served as president of Baptist Communicators Association and vice president of Associated Church Press, two national organizations for professional Christian communicators, and in various positions with Religion Communicators Council, Evangelical Press Association and Alabama Press Association. She is currently president-elect of the Association of State Baptist Publications.
Before coming to TAB she served for two years with the International Mission Board and Caribbean Christian Publications.

Susan Stevens, Outside Advertising Representative

Susan joined The Alabama Baptist as an outside advertising sales representative in November 2011. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Samford University. Prior to joining The Alabama Baptist, Susan worked in advertising sales for several organizations. She and her husband, Ralph, have two children. Grace Thornton, Special Assignments Editor

Grace Thornton has worked in the editorial department of The Alabama Baptist in different capacities since 2003. She also served several years overseas with the International Mission Board. Grace earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and English from Mississippi College and has done some graduate study at the University of Alabama and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She’s the author of two books, “I Don’t Wait Anymore” and “Unshakable Pursuit.” Grace also co-authored “The Alabama Baptist: Celebrating 175 Years of Informing, Inspiring and Connecting Baptists.” She is a member of The Church at Brook Hills, Birmingham. Cynthia Watts

Cynthia began working with The Alabama Baptist on Jan. 1, 2019. Previously she has had two careers, serving in church staff positions and quality improvement in health care. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Samford University. Cynthia is a certified life and work coach. She and her husband, Stan, have two daughters and four grandchildren who are her heart. She is a member of Valleydale Baptist Church, Birmingham.
