Earlier this year The Alabama Baptist staff was excited to host several evenings of music and entertainment at our Servant/Leadership Appreciation Night events held across the state.
Now another evening of entertainment is planned for Aug. 2. Hosted by Providence Baptist Church, Opelika, in Tuskegee Lee Baptist Association, the event begins at 6 p.m.
An enhanced version of the lineup of comedy, music and illusion is planned, but this time the focus is to provide encouragement and financial help to those whose lives were changed forever by the March 3 tornadoes that struck the Beauregard and Smiths Station communities in Lee County.
Response to tragedy
Twenty-three people were killed that day and hundreds were left homeless. In the aftermath volunteers staged out of Providence Baptist, where Rusty Sowell is pastor.
Sowell and Providence Baptist were honored recently by the North American Mission Board (NAMB) for the church’s response to the tragedy.
NAMB President Kevin Ezell also announced private donors were providing $20,000 toward the church’s effort to build a permanent memorial to those who died.
The TAB benefit night is one of the ways you can help those recovering from the devastation of the tornadoes.
Donations and gift cards will be taken at the door, and all proceeds will be used by Providence Baptist to help with the recovery and rebuilding efforts taking place across the county.
Doors open at 5:15 p.m. No reservations are necessary. The event is family-friendly for all ages.
Lineup of entertainers:
- Pianist Frank Jones
- Illusionist David Garrard
- Comedian Mickey Bell
- Gospel trio New Ground
- Comedian Aaron Wilburn
Bell said the evening will be a time to enjoy fellowship and encouragement with one another in a “fun and relaxed way.”
